OAHPERD’s Advocacy Priorities
1) Promoting quality health education and physical activity in your school.
- Enhancing local curriculum to align with standards and best practices.
- Increasing instructional time in health education and physical education.
- Enhancing healthy behaviors in your school by coordinating policies, programs, and practices that align with the Ohio Whole Child Framework.
2) Encouraging lawmakers to support quality health education:
- Ohio must adopt legislation for Ohio to become the 50th state to adopt health education standards.
- Removing the harmful and hurtful requirements within ORC 3313.60 regarding venereal disease instruction.
3) Support educators and students by creating supportive environments where everyone can learn, work, and live with dignity, respect, freedom from fear and violence, and be protected against discrimination, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity/expression or sexual orientation.
