Serving Ohio's HPERD Professionals since 1895...
The Ohio Physical Education Association dates back to 1895. It is credited as being the first state association recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Physical Education. The name changed as the association grew and in 1929 became the School Health and Physical Education Association of Ohio.
OAHPERD serves HPERD professionals pre k through higher education. The association is more than 3,000 people strong and is committed to the advancement of the profession.
OAHPERD is affiliated with the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the Midwest District for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; Ohio Education Association, Ohio Department of Education, American Heart Association, Ohio High School Athletic Association, Ohio Alliance for Arts in Education, Ohio Parks and Recreation and the State Planning Committee for Health Education in Ohio.
By 2008, the Ohio Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance will be recognized as Ohio's leading professional organization in the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles and lifelong learning.
